Paul Biya Bared From French National Day Celebrations

Contrary to what usually happens every 14 July when Heads of state of former French colonies and friends of the French Republic are usually invited to the Elysee palace for the celebration, this time around French president, Francois Hollande did not only snub Paul Biya but made sure he did not step his feet on French soil, even on his own. It had earlier been disclosed that this year’s event would coincide with the centenary commemoration of the beginning of the First World War would  be  attended by 200 military men and 250 young people from around the world. In all, over 80 countries were invited to take part in the celebration. In central Africa however, Equatorial Guinea was not invited and observers have been quick to point out that it is because the country has no colonial links with France.

On the official list of countries invited were Chad, Gabon, Congo, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso .The French president said the celebrations were placed within the context of the 1st world war and the countries that were instrumental in the war campaign were also being recognized. Anglophone African countries, amongst them the Republic of South Africa were also invited. This brought the total number of African countries to 17.

However, Cameroon was not included. This has been interpreted by many to mean that the relations between Francois Hollande and Paul Biya are sour. Even though Cameroon did not fight on the side of the French, but rather for the Germans, the country was at the crossroads and lost some 6,000 soldiers and 10,000 civilians. This led to the creation of the condominium between Britain and France from 1916 to 1918.Even in the directorate of cooperation in the ministry of external relations were at a lost as to what was going on with the president Paul Biya .They said in principle, during such ceremonies, invitations are extended to heads of state. But that was not the case with Cameroon’s head of state who did not even send a delegation to the event.

The last time Biya was invited to the French National Day Celebrations date back to the Sarkozy era in 2010.As for Francois Hollande, he has moved from one understanding to the other with President Paul Biya. The last time this came to the limelight was during the summit in security in Nigeria .Before that, it was the Francophonie summit in the DR Congo, then the Economic Forum organized by Cameroon in France. Recently, it has been disclosed that given the dwindling relations between Cameroon and France, the recent Cameroon European Union accord which disfavours Cameroon is a move to please the French government.

It is based on this that observers are saying since Biya is no longer working in their favour, there is need for  a pro- French president at Etoudi given that the appellation of France as Cameroon’s first trading partner is only on paper because after 50 years of partnership, there is nothing to show on the Cameroon side which has now turned to new partners like China and Turkey.

Former Finance Minister Slammed another Jail Term

The Special Criminal Court on 15 July 2014 once more found the former minister of the Economy and Finance, Polycarp Abah Abah and his accomplices guilty of embezzlement of public funds. In a   court session which lasted for about three hours ,found Polycarp Abah Abah,Eyoum  Lydienne and the former Minister Delegate in charge of the budget, Henri Engoulou who died recently guilty of embezzling the sum of 1,07 billion francs .Two others ,notably Baleng Maa and Ngwen Honore were equally found guilty of complicity in embezzlement of public funds.

The state prosecutor said Maitre Eyoum Lydienne received the sum of 379 million francs as her honorarium and the money was paid by Minister Edouard Akame Mfoumou .She helped the state recover a total of 3.6 billion francs from the SGBC Bank. The same Lydienne Eyoum presented yet another bill of 917 million francs to minister Edouard Akame Mfoumou at the time he was leaving office in April 2001 and the bill was at the directorate of judicial affairs in the ministry of finance. The bill ended up on the table of Henri Engoulou, then Secretary General in the ministry of finance who instructed SGBC Bank to pay the bills. The bank sent back the request to the Ministry which was the lawyer’s client. Another 2,155 billion was also recovered for the state and it emerged that the amount to be paid for the honorarium to Maitre Eyoum was to be decided, this at a time when Henri Engoulou was already Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget in the Ministry of Finance.

The state prosecutor ruled that the request of 2,155 billion francs was illegal and against a memorandum of understanding reached between the state and SGBC for the latter to pay 3.6 billion frs. This money was deducted from SGBC accounts at BEAC. With her co-accused, Maitre Eyoum and her co-accused went on to press for the payment of the 2,155billion frs ,half of which she refused to pay into the state Treasury. This, the court ruled constitutes embezzlement of public funds.

Abah Abah for his part was found guilty of giving special authorization for Maitre Eyoum to recover the money on behalf of the state. He equally had power to ensure that this money was paid into the state treasury, but that was never done. Thus they were still found wanting of 1,07 billion frs that they are still keeping till date. Engoulou was found guilty for reopening the file on the request of maitre Eyoum.

As for the two others the state prosecutor ruled that ,Baleng Maa and Ngwen Honore were also guilty, the first for the abusive attribution of the second claim and Ngwen Honore for his role in the reopening of the case file ,contrary to the memorandum of understanding reached between the state and SGBC bank.

SDF, CPDM MP Rubbish Gov’t Over Parliamentary Procedures/ Fake Plane Bill

The First National Vice President of the SDF Joshua Osih Nambangi who doubles as the Vice Chairman of the Finance and Budget committee of the National Assembly and his colleague of the CPDM Peter William Mandio who is also member of the Social and Cultural committee of the National Assembly have both rubbished the government of Cameroon for tele-guiding deliberations in the National Assembly. They also lambasted the government for making parliamentary procedures entirely dependent on the executive arm of the government, thereby making parliament a mockery of an institution in a Democracy.

Both men were speaking shortly after the end of the June session of the National Assembly that ended recently. According to Honourable Joshua Osih, the 143 CPDM parliamentarians of the National Assembly have reduced themselves to stooges of the executive arm of government given that they do not give room for debate in parliament .He went on to point out that Cameroonians will now have to face the consequences of such ridiculous methods of the CPDM regime following the recent adoption of the Cameroon –European Union accords that recently went through parliament. He pointed out that though the law was not in favour of the ordinary Cameroonians, parliamentarians went on to vote it into law on grounds of party discipline or simply because their party asked them to do so.

On the recent visit of the former Ivorian warlord and president of the Ivorian National Assembly, Joshua Osih expressed shock that after doing all without success to set Cameroon on flames, the Biya regime has now gone all out to invite Guillaume Soro who used arms and provoked a war in Ivory Coast to get to power. He said it is regrettable that a man who for over ten years took up arms to kill and destroy his country is now being presented as a democrat to be emulated in front of honourable gentlemen and women. He said history will know that the action of the SDF to jeer and walk out on Guillaume Soro was a commendable one.

Harping on the recent scandalous purchase of the MA 60 plane from China that has seen the embezzlement of over 20 billion francs cfa ,Osih said the responses of the Minister of Transport on the matter justifies the putting in place of a commission to carry out investigations.

Corroborating the SDF MP, his CPDM counterpart, Honourable Peter William Mandio said it is regrettable that it has now become a rule to ridicule parliament by making sure that each time a bill is to be presented before the deputies for examination, they are given just a few hours to go through voluminous documents because the mass is usually said before the plenary proper. He said there were quite a number of things to be said about the statute of MPs but they were not given any time as they were asked to vote by a show of hand so that anyone who did not toe party lines would be identified.

He went further to point out that the presence of Guillaume Soro ,the Ivorian warlord cum president of the National Assembly is not a good example for Cameroonian youths going by what he did in Ivory Coast. On the issue of the fraudulent plane purchase Peter William Mandio said as far back as the March session of parliament, he and Honourable Joshua Osih were the first to start putting pressure for a parliamentary group of inquiry .He expressed hope that with the putting in place of the congress which will unite both houses of parliament there would be greater debate, concluding that there is need for the much awaited Constitutional council.

Cameroon consumes 620 million hectoliters of Beer in 2013.

Rated Highest in number of Drunkards - Research has proven that in no distant future Cameroon will win the disgraceful crown of the country with the highest number of drunkards in the world  following a research study indicating  that Cameroonians all over the national territory consumed 620 million hectoliters of  beer in 2013.This represents beer produced by all the breweries on Cameroonian soil and excluding wine, spirits and whiskies. This represents a net increase of 20 million hectoliters in one year alone.

According to the statistics, in 2013,Les Brasseries Du Cameroon sold 502.746.300 hectolitres ,Guinness 76 million hectoliters and the rest of the breweries sold the rest. Concordantly .1,918 million crates of beer were sold within the same period. When added with the other spirited drinks wine and imported alcoholic beverages, the figures are alarming and worrisome, leaving Cameroon a country with the highest number of drunkards on the continent and threatening to take the number one position on planet earth. Though the Cameroon law prohibits the sale of alcohol to school going children ,this category of persons has been identified to be amongst the highest consumers while tongues are wagging as to why despite continuous increase in beer prices, consumption only continues to rise .This increased consumption also has a strong correlation with delinquency, banditry and crime wave.

In 2012, Cameroon occupied the second position in beer consumption, behind Poland. This situation has been quickly compared to the recent increase in the price of fuel which has met with much opposition. Paradoxically, when beer prices are increased people do not protest and yet do not limit or even stop consumption. Rather, consumption increases as recent statistics have revealed. With this figures pundits are of the opinion that Cameroon will emerge first as a country with the highest number of drunkards and beer bottles far before 2035. Meantime other schools have blamed the situation on frustration and alarming rate of unemployment. To eschew psychological trauma given the alarming rate of poverty and frustration, most people find solace in alcohol.

GCE Board to overhaul GCE Markers from Next Year

The Registrar of the GCE Board ,Humphrey Ekema Monono has disclosed that as from next year the process of renewing GCE Markers will be intensified .The Registrar made the statement in Bamenda while visiting all the six GCE marking centres in the north west region recently.

He said the renewal exercise from next year will take into consideration many criteria such as, retirement, grades and other information gathered. He said some teachers bring wrong indices to get out of station allowances while some of them change their addresses from private to public school teachers. Yet other home based markers give flimsy excuses to stay away. The Registrar however noted that marking is not limited to public school teachers. Each school, he added should have at least two teachers in the marking and further pointed out that some technical education subjects do not have examiners in the public and private schools and as such the Board recruits in from enterprises.

The Registrar said the renewal of the marking exercise is engraved in the statutes of the board. Renewing the marking panel by 5 % every year is very important. He said while regretting that some panels unfortunately have become monarchies difficult to go in and to come out. That is why there has been renewal because of increase scripts .In 2006 there were 3900 examiners, and 6500 in 2014 to be able to handle the increasing number of candidates.

The Registrar was in the North West to oversee marking in six centres to ensure that it ends up objectively. On marking dues ,he said the markers must first make sure they qualify and there will always be calm when the Board listens to teachers needs and their advice is usually given attention  over the years, reason s why the environment is peaceful and serene with teachers  sharing knowledge with ease.

He encouraged teachers to continue to be assiduous  and draw their attention to the expectations of the public. Monono said teachers should do their job well.
On teachers who are not classroom teachers taking part in the marking, he said it is not a worry so long as they are of that discipline and  academically honest, saying the panel is there to advise whether they measure up without which they are advised to withdraw.
He lamented that end of examination reports that go round the field are not being exploited by teachers because the same problems decried for them to change their methods and use new techniques keep resurfacing.

During the written phase where candidates were caught sleeping because they attended classes till about 5 am in the morning. He that gives the impression that questions have leaked. While advising parents to guide against such classes the Registrar   condemned the idea and warned  that any school caught in such practices will have to face the brunt of the GCE Board.

The problem Monono regretted ,is the psychological trauma candidates go through by attending toll gate classes. On the release of the resultson internate and mobile services, he said “modern technology is there and we should exploit it anywhere in the country or out of the country. The result  is not limited to those who have passed. The number of candidates  has increased more than three times and reading names of candidates who have passed would take  more than three days .this is unacceptable”. No door has been closed to any media. He said “we are in a global village  with technological advancement.”

Cabinet Reshuffle - Biya’s Cronies Still To Hold All Strategic Positions

See List Of Untouchables. It is almost one year now since the last elections were held and Cameroonians have been waiting impatiently for a new government that will reflect the outcome of the elections. This has even been made more true when we consider the fact that the ruling CPDM party is making final touches to go down to the field to reorganize the basic organs of the party. Though in 2007,many winners in the reorganization finally found their way into strategic positions,it has been continuously proven that there is a group of individuals who came with Paul Biya and will only leave when he also leaves.

Some of these include:
Martin Belinga Eboutou; The man who is now director of civil cabinet at the presidency has served as special adviser to the President of the Republic. He knew Biya as a friend since secondary school days in Nden ,Akono. He was chief of presidential protocol from 1989 to 1997 when he left for the UN as Cameroon ambassador and came back again some years back as director of cabinet.

Marcel Niat Njifenji managed SONEL for over 25 years and despite staying out for a few years has bounced back as President of the Senate.

Ahmadou Ali started his career in 1971 as an assistant SDO and served in the Ministry of Public service before joining Biya shortly after the 1984 coup. He has been delegate general of Tourism,Secretary general of the Presidency,Defence minister ,justice minister and now in charge of relations with the assembly with the rank of a vice prime minister Bello Bouba Maigari was Biya’s first prime minister in 1982.Despite going on exile after the 1984 coup he returned in the 1990s to snatch the UNDP from Samule Eboua and then join Biya;s government as a life partner.

Laurent Esso ; Has evolved in more than five ministry notably Defence,Public Health, External Relations,Justice twice and is a key regim baron. Others include Issa Tchiroma Bakary the Communication Minister who was detained in 1984 in connection with the coup and released in 1990 has also been a member of Parliament, Jacques Fame Ndongo a professor of journalism and chief spin Doctor of the CPDM regime who has been on government since 2000, Jean Pierre Biyiti Bi Essam ,Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo who has been on and off government passing through the Prime Minister’s office through the Ministry of Communication and then bouncing back in External Relations, Edgar Alain Mebengo’o former Director of Civil cabinet at the Presidency,Police Chief and now Minister of Defence,Hamadou Moustapha of the ANDP and presidential majority, Loius Paul Motaze secretary general at the prime minister’s office and former minister of the Economy,Michel Meva’a Meboutou,Secretary General of the senate and former finance minister, Jean Baptiste Bokam wh o first entered government in 1988 and bounced back years later as gendarmerie boss, Yaou Aissatou ,president of CPDM women who served as women and social affairs minister for 16 uninterrupted years and now board chair of SNI,Foumane Akame ,a close legal aide to Biya who is hardly seen in public, Gregoire Owona, the deputy scribe of the CPDM ,long time serving assistant secretary general at the presidency and then minister in charge of the assembly and now labour minister, Adolf Moudiki the boss of the hydrocarbons corporation as well as Talba Malla Ibrahim ,former CSPH director now running the lone country’s oil refinery ,SONARA. These regime cohorts will only leave for good when Biya finally leaves. They may take a short break from time to time but be sure that as Biya remains in control, they will always bounce back when least expected to do so.

Donga Mantung CPDM Politicians accused for selling ID cards to foreigners

In a bid to address issues that now pose security threats in Donga Mantung Division, the unorthodox possession of Cameroon identity cards by foreigners facilitated by some CPDM barons for selfish reasons is said to be giving headache to the administration. A security meeting held to pre-empt Boko Haram and their possible infiltration into border towns like Donga Mantung saw issuance of Cameroon ID cards to foreigners in 2013 to swell CPDM votes as gruesome mistake that posses security threats.

Reacting to this concern, the Station Manager of Savannah Frontier Radio (one of the leading informative and educative radio stations of the division) – Jitzi George Tando, pointed accusing finger at overzealous CPDM politicians of the division. He opined that those politicians in their mad rush for militants and quest for victory at all cost in 30 September 2013 twin elections, resorted to facilitating the issuance of Cameroonian ID cards to Nigerians who readily welcomed the idea-for long term benefits.

The reaction by Jitzi  George only buttressed what he earlier cried foul of, more than a year ago over CRTV national station where he castigated some young politicians of Donga Mantung who kept agents at border towns like Ako, Nwa, Ndu, Misaje, Nkambe, Abonshie, Lus, Sabongida and Mayo Binka to ‘’harvest’’ as many Nigerians as possible. The Nigerians were reportedly transported to the respective offices where they were established fake certificate of nationality, then National ID cards instantly.

The declaration on the national media almost landed him in trouble with some top Donga Mantung division elite resident in Yaounde. Vanguard gathered. He continued that some of those politicians who were in attendance fumed in anger. George said the meeting has served as vindication to him because some prominent personalities of the division had since considered him as a small devil and enemy who washes the dirty linins of the division in the public. He revealed that he has so far received punching questions directly or through telephone calls by some big wigs questioning who he is to talk about Donga Mantung Division. “What is your problem with that, can you prove it?”.

The SDO after admitting the rampant possession of Cameroonian ID cards by some Nigerians told the audience of the ongoing measures being put in place to track down these individuals. He also admitted that this network would not have been possible without the collaboration and complicity of some identification officers, Fons and Ardos. The population was exhorted to be vigilant and to give maximum assistance to the security immediately they suspect such cases.

Donga Mantung Fons Urged to use Witchcraft for Development

In a “security meeting’’ convened last weekend  by the SDO for Donga Mantung Division Ngone Ndode Messappe Bernard  highlighted witchcraft as not only being a social problem but security threat. The SDO was speaking to over 200 people drawn from five sub divisions of the Division namely Nwa , Ndu Misaje, Ako and Nkambe Central. Mayors, security officials, heads of services, clergy, ardos, fons, media etc ,were in attendance.

The meeting which was aimed at not only finding solutions or taking preventive measures against security threats of the Islamic sect – Boko Haram, but also to discuss some issues plaguing the division like witchcraft  practices, armed banditry, cattle theft, drug addiction , recurrent attacks on villages by foreign grazers and activities of SCNC. Much was expounded on the above security concerns but it rather turned dramatic when the SDO harped on witchcraft phenomenon in the division. The SDO lamented that the number one problem faced by the people of Donga Mantung Division is that of witchcraft that has greatly contributed to the under-development of the area. He said because of witchcraft practices some illustrious sons and daughters of the division have died while others scared from coming home to carry out developmental projects  in their respective villages. This anti-development phenomenon “witchcraft ,  is now the identity card of the people of Donga Mantung Division”, the SDO said, regretting why  a division blessed with enormous resources should have such setbacks because envy . The SDO  Ngone Ndode Bernard asked if there  is no way witchcraft powers could be used to do extra ordinary things that can bring about  development.

Turning to the traditional rulers he expressed in belief like all and sundry that traditional rulers who posses super natural should warn and urge their fellow subjects who are practitioners of this scaring practices to desist from  rampant killing of their peers. The SDO retorted that he has witnessed cases where the accused admit to the fact that they ate the legs while some admit haven eaten  the heart- all of human body.

What made things dramatic here is that of over 12 traditional rulers that were present, none of them readily reacted to the SDO’s declarations giving the impressions to the audience that they are indeed guilty of the accusation levied on them. At the end of the meeting, only the  fon of Binka honestly  defended  that  fons  may not all be wizards. He said have soothsayers’ have testify the various nocturnal activities  of witches and wizards which are beyond human comprehension. He said when victims are brought before the judiciary as evidence, the institution most often exercise skepticism given that it cannot be scientifically proven.

Drawing conclusions on this topic, the SDO called on the people of Donga Mantung to emulate the example from people of other communities by first of all changing their mindsets and nurturing the spirit of love and unity that would enhance peace co-existence,  social cohesion and mutual respect amongst them. He further called on them to shun idleness and engage in income generating activities that would keep them busy thereby distracting them from practicing these barbaric acts.

Biya scheme to extend mandate beyond 2018

Rated first amongst a list 50 current longest non royal national leaders and one of world longest serving dictator by WIKIPEDIA and conservapadia. In spite the declining economy, Paul Biya and his CPDM myopic militants are again scheming to extend his stay at the helm of the Republic of Cameroon beyond 2018.

Political elite of the CPDM from all the 10 regions of Cameroon for about a month now have been publishing motions of support in the government owned Cameroon Tribune in a well organized and coordinated way to reassure the head of state of their loyalty and to prepare him to run again in the 2018 presidential elections.

Readers of the newspaper are now very conscious of a column baptised “Support to the head of state” which is a page on which motions of support addressed to the head of state are planted .This page has come to fill another one that went with the 2011 presidential elections, complementing another well planned one known as “the peoples call”. In the yesteryears it was said these pages were a compendium of motions of support from militants and living forces of the nation for Paul Biya to run in the 2011 presidential election. These political machinations were baptized “the peoples call”. SOPECAM published two volumes of these calls .The scheme shape political configuration of the country.

The strategy thought out by the political intellectuals of the party worked out so well. This is because both local and international opinion as well as development partners succumbed to the believed that Paul Biya is very popular, though it may not be necessarily true given that he has been in power for 32 years. No constitutional amendment in 2008 that provoked outrage especially on the issue of mandate of the head of state which is now limitless is still fresh in the memories of Cameroonians.

The regime barons used this to hold on to power arguing that the limit on mandates was anti-democratic. Not even the February 2008 uprising could stop this egoistic manouevre .On the contrary, there were “the peoples call “ for him to stand again.

Four years to 2018 “the peoples call” has now taken the form of “support to the head of state”. At the beginning, it is motion of supports from grassroots militants in their respective localities .But as the present 7 year mandate progresses, the intellectual -conceivers of the idea have  started  giving it a political connotation. How can we explain the fact that out of a sudden the head of state regularizes the situation of traditional rulers after many years of oblivion? They quickly addressed a motion of support to the head of state.

But in recent weeks things have taken a different dimension .It is the “political elite “ of all the ten regions of the country who are sending motions of support to the head of state  and which are immediately published on the page “support to the head of state “in Cameroon Tribune. All the messages have the same intellectual content. We are four years to the next presidential elections and these motions of support are coming up. It was also at about this time, four years to the 2011 elections that this same political maneuvers in the name of the peoples call started. Now there is no longer any limitation to the mandates of the head of state. So, the “living forces” of the ten regions have once again started four years ahead of time preparing Paul Biya to succeed himself in the 2018 elections at the ripe old age of 85.

It should be noted that President Paul BIYA was born on 13 February 1933 at Mvomeka’a, Sangmelima

Subdivision, Dja-et-Lobo Division of South Region.

He started work as a civil servant with former president Amadou Ahidjo in October 1962 as Charger de Mission at the Presidency of the Presidency in January 1964 and appointed  Director of Cabinet of the Minister of National Education, Youth and Culture in July 1965.He became Secretary-General of the Ministry of National Education, Youth and culture.

In December 1967 he was appointed Director of the Civil Cabinet at the President of the Republic and in august 1968, he was catapolted Minister Secretary-General at the Presidency of the Republic. In June 1970 he became Minister Secretary- General of the Presidency of the Repoublic. In July 1972, he was reappointed Minster of State Secretary-General at the Presidency of the Republic. June 1979 and July 1980, he rosed to the position of Prime Minister of the United Republic of Cameroon in accordance with the new provision of the Constitution which made him constitutionnal successor of the President being permanently prevented from attending to his duties, duly ascertained by the Suprem Court.

On the 06 of November 1982 he became the President of the United Reoublic of Cameroon following the   reignation Ahmadou Ahidjo on 04 November 1982 allegedly decieved by France, the spin doctors of Cameroon politics.

Statistically, “Biya is 81 years today according to paper age and has served as president for 32 years running.According phychologist, Biya by nature must  have chronoogical mental  rot. This is a natural phenominon with human. Once above 60 years  Chronological mental decay set in . Symthoms of such deffect is forgetfulness .This means he  no longer  sharp in  reasoning as his brians are weak and tired.

Interestingly, Biya is still mutering courage to stand eletion in 2018 as president.By that  time, he will be 85 years, and if he extends beyond 2018,  he will be 92 years by the time he exhaust that mandate . May be he will stay for twenty years as he did promised those who wish him dead.”A reliable source fhas hinted Vanguard.

Boko Haram kill 4, snatch vice PM's wife

Boko Haram militants attacked Kolofata, a town in Cameroon's Far North Region near Nigeria, on Sunday and seized several people including the wife of Cameroon's Vice Prime Minister Amadou Ali, Colonel Felix Nji Formekong, the second commander of Cameroon's third inter-army military region (RMIA3) based in the regional headquarters Maroua has heralded.

The terrorist reportedly took away the wife of Vice Prime Minister Ahmadou Ali and her house help while the bodyguards of the Vice Prime Minister have succeeded in taking him out of the town to Mora," Formekong said.

Three people were reportedly killed on the fateful day Sunday July 27   in a cross-border attack involving more than 200 assailants in the northern town of Kolofata..A local traditional leader, lamido, named Seini Boukar Lamine, who is also the town's mayor, and five members of his family were also kidnapped in a separate attack on his home.

"I can confirm that the home of Vice Prime Minister Amadou Ali in Kolofata came under a savage attack from Boko Haram militants," government spokesman Issa Tchiroma Bakari Communications Minister.

At the time of the incedent, Cameroon military commander in the region reportedly vamoosed with the vice prime minister to a neighbouring town.  The VP was at home preparing to  celebrate the Muslim feast of Ramadan with his family when the attack happened.

The Sunday attack is the third Boko Haram attack in Cameroon since Friday. About four soldiers were killed in the two previous attacks. More than 3,000 Nigerians fleeing Boko Haram attacks have taken refuge in the Cameroon town of Fotokol, according to a municipal official.
Vanguard has gathered

on same day- Sunday 27, a bomb attack on a Catholic church in northern Nigeria's main city of Kano killed five people and wounded eight.

Boko Haram translated as "Western education is a sin", The militant of the islam organization based northern Nigeria influenced by the Wahhabi movement allegedly founded by Mohammed Yusuf since 2002 seeks to establish a complete islamic state in Northern Nigeria.

The group is said to have written Cameroon’s Head of Sate president Paul Biya warning against attempt by Cameroon to support Nigerian President Good Luck Jonathan. But their abduction of French, Italian clergy men, Chinese workers amongst Cameroon for ransom plunged Biya into the issue.

Meantime, the military court in Cameroon has handed down prison sentences of up to 20 years to 14 Boko Haram members who were arrested in March after the discovery of a weapons cache, admitted to being part of the Nigerian extremist group at a "public hearing" in the northern town of Maroua, They had been charged with the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and of plotting an insurrection. Their sentence is between 10 and 20 years" in prison, subject to no appealed.

It is said that more than 3,000 Nigerians fleeing Boko Haram attacks have taken refuge in the Cameroon town of Fotokol, according to a municipal official.

In the first half of 2014 Boko Haram killed more than 2000 civilians, in about 95 attacks and, in the preceding three years, more than 3000. In May 2014, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan claimed that Boko Haram attacks have left at least 12,000 people dead and 8,000 crippled. Hundreds of thousands have fled their homes.

The group exerts influence in the northeastern Nigerian states of Borno, Adamawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, Yobe and Kano. The group does not have a clear structure or evident chain of command and has been called "diffuse" with a "cell-like structure" facilitating factions and splits.

It alledged that the group is  divided into three factions with a splinter group known as Ansaru and  leader  named Abubakar Shekau. Its weapons expert, second-in-command and arms manufacturer was Momodu Bama.

It is also said that  Boko Haram leadership has international connections to Al-Qa`ida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), Al-Qa`ida core, Al-Shabab, the Movement for Unity and Jihad in West Africa (MUJAO), Mokhtar Belmokhtar’s factions, and other militant groups outside Nigeria.

Gov’t Launches Fresh crackdown on SCNC as Militants Plan grand conclave

The southern Cameroon National Council (SCNC), which is fighting for the restoration of the statehood of Southern Cameroons, recently held an extra-ordinary session in Bamenda, dedicated to the State Burial of the former National Chairman, Chief AYAMBA ETTE OTUN the former National Chairman of the SCNC. According to the meeting held under the auspices of Dr Nfor Ngalla Nfor,  Chief Ayamba Ette the king pink of the SCNC should be canonize in appreciation for   his dedication and commitment to the restoration of the Statehood of British Southern Cameroons. Chief  Ayamba was appreciated for his exemplary sacrifices to bequeath a rich legacy and give  southern Cameroonians the human dignity they deserve as ordained by the Creator and  his determined to remain faithful to the struggle for restoration of sovereignty of British Southern Cameroons till the colonial occupier is chased out.

Given this ingenuity of his, the National Council during a meeting held in Bamenda on June 13 resolved to give him “Chief Ayamba Ette  Otun” a state burial in Mamfe on the 26 of July, the cradle of British Southern Cameroons nationalism. It was also resolved during the meeting that a week of National Mourning from Monday July 21 - 27, 2014 be declared throughout the national territory of British Southern Cameroons and for all SCNC in Diaspora Chapters and patriots.

Member agreed that the flag of British Southern Cameroons Flag should fly at half-mast both at home and abroad

And given that Chief Ayamba, Ette Otun as the National Chairman who led representatives of the SCNC to Banjul in the case against annexationist la Republique, members condemned those who behind their backs held talks with Vice Prime Minister Ahmadou Ali and were ferried several times to Banjul to withdraw the case against la Republique du Cameroun for annexing and colonially occupying the Southern Cameroon land and “making us slaves,” Nfor Nfor said.

Believing that this treacherous crack has strengthened the enemy's policy of divide and rule and giving the regime the audacity to, with impunity ignore the Constructive Dialogue as approved by the AU Summit in Libya since July 2009, member resolved to hold a truth and National reconciliation talk – commission to reinforce activities of the movement in the months ahead.

On issues of insecurity in British Southern Cameroon the National Council condemned the increase in cost of petrol which has influenced hikes in prices of basic commodities and the growing insecurity in the country. They argued that the 5% salary increase for civil servants is meaningless, expressing disgust that such astronomical increase in prices of basic commodities only subjects the growing army of the unemployed, the under employed and farmers to greater misery, rise in crime wave and unrest.

Apart from that, the National Council also express worries about the recent murder of a teenager by name Julius Chai, a bread hawker, on Wednesday July 2, 2014, at the Foncha Street Junction on his way to buy bread for sell. And given that the said soldier has not yet been arrested for necessary interrogation and charges, members warned it is a provocation of war.

“Recalling that  we have been victims of states of emergency, curfews and economic blockade, periods within which la Republique du Cameroun occupation forces without restraint sent unfortunate British Southern Cameroonians to their early graves “the National Council called on President Paul Biya to put an end to the arrest and killings of unarmed and defenseless British Southern Cameroonians, challenging him to arrest the murderer of Chai Julius who is said to have escaped and prosecute him for extra judicial execution of innocent Julius Chai. He warned   that any failure to arrest and prosecute murderer tantamounts  to vandalism on Anglophones and perpetual colonial occupation and subjugation.

Considering the growing insecurity in the country and the recent brutal murder of Julius Chai aimed at inciting the population, the National Council frowned and strongly condemned the provocative establishment of a Gendarmerie Brigade in the Ntambessi Quarter, few meters away from the SCNC National Chairman's ( Dr Nfor Nfor) residence. This he said will not in the least way force the SCNC and British Southern Cameroonians in general to surrender to annexation and colonial occupation.

The National Council in the supreme interest of fighting for a common destiny calls on all British Southern Cameroonians to avoid giving the “occupier of our land the open door to intensify the policy of divide and rule, greater repression and exploitation”.

Shortly after the meeting, security signals went wild .A security source hinted Vanguard that government will intensify crackdown on members of the SCNC. It should be recalled that the Human Right abuse and arbitrary arrest, killings and detention of Southern Cameroonians’ have sent many activists like Ebenzer Akwanga, Fabian Elonge, Emmanuel Shey, Njegani Wilfred , Polnareff Ameli, Eyong Benard,Eneneza Akwanga,Micheal Takie ,Awe James etc into hiding . The homes of some of SCNC activists have severally been scanned to get more evidence about movement and their where about.

Given the increasing insecurity and plans by SCNC to hold talks and close ranks to re-enforce the fight against La Republique, homes of SCNC activists and Cameroonians who allegedly participate in the attack of a Civil Administrator’s office in Bui Division, February 35 to 28 2008 fuel strike in Bamenda, Douala and Buea and those who have been attending SCNC meetings and participating in activities of the movement have again been tipped for scrutiny and maybe fresh arrest of suspected separatist.. It should be recalled that repeated harassment and search of private homes of activist over the years has caused some families to relocate for fear of arbitrary arrest and illegal detention by the Republican forces. The barbarism of the La Republic forces warrants urgent international intervention to stop the Human Right abuse on Southern Cameroonians who have the legitimate right to their independence following the gross mismatch of the unification with La Republic du Cameroon. Pundits have condemned.

Marafa’s Wife Spits Fire on Cameroon judiciary From France

Ever since the arrest of her husband on 16 April 2012,Madam Jeannette Njanga Epse Marafa has up till now kept silent After joining a group known as the Committee for the release of political prisoners in Cameroon, a movement created in Paris France on 3 May this year, it would appear she has taken a resolution not to keep quiet any further.

In a recent interview with Africa No 1 ,Madam Jeannette Njanga  said when the trial judge in the Marafa matter handed down his judgment ,he stated it clearly there was no prove that Marafa participated in the embezzlement of public funds. Since Marafa knew Yves Michel Fotso since 1991,it was simply concluded that he was also guilty .She insisted that the jailing of her husband is highly questionable because the entire process for the purchase of the controversial presidential plane from the purchase order ,the delivery of the plane ,the problems that arose from the first plane and the final handing over of the plane to the presidency of the Republic were  and all what happened thereafter were adequately compensated for, thanks to the mediation of Barrister Akere Muna.

While admitting that Cameroon has very qualified judges, Marafa’s wife regretted that they did not handle her husband’s case properly, adding that it was not just a simple case of justice but an entire political maneuvered. She sited the case of the former board chairman of the Douala Ports Authority, Edouard Etonde Ekotto  who after seven years in detention was found not to be guilty for what he had been jailed. She said the psychological and mental torture for his family members is enormous and that such damage cannot be repaired.

Recounting the arrest of Marafa ,Madam Jeannette Njanga said it was on 14 April 2012 when Marafa was served two convocations; one from the judicial police and another from another police station to appear at the same time on 16 April. She said they had programmed to go on holiday to France on that same 16 April and had actually applied and obtained permission from the presidency of the Republic through the Secretary General at the Presidency .This was done in writing .Given that she has been a patient for long and with young children, and also that Easter was approaching, she had to go to France. So she left for France a day before her husband was arrested.

Since then, she lamented, she has never seen her husband again nor spoken to him given that he does not have access to a telephone. She revealed that she is currently living in France with all her children who have gone through a lot of psychological torture .Madam Jeannette Njanga disclosed that she has missed several assassination attempts which included the deflation of her car tyres and attack on her vehicle. This she said caused her to involve the French security services who have put the situation under control. Marafa’s wife also disclosed that all forms of collaboration between his lawyer in France ,Jean Pierre Minard who is also Francois Hollande’s lawyer as well as those back in Cameroon have been forbidden, making it difficult for them to get through to Marafa Hamidou Yaya.

Madam Jeannette Njanga also said the arrest of Louis Bapes Bapes was a joke in bad taste because Biya does not arrest sitting ministers and conclude that the Cameroon government is now manned by incompetent cohorts of president Biya.

Cavaye Yeguie Djibril Spots Boko Haram Militants In Cameroon Government

For the first time ,the speaker of the national assembly, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril who is the third in command in state protocol has admitted that Boko Haram members are in high places in the Cameroonian society .Though these type of accusations are not new in Cameroon, it is however shocking that Cavaye Yeguie Djibril made such open declarations in the opening speech of the plenary session of the nation assembly.

Hear him: “Boko Haram militants must be exposed at all costs and punished according to the laws of the republic. We know them very well. Many of them are amongst us;some in hiding  and others in very active service, and in their hypocrisy do pretend to be supporting the state authorities to fight the sect; with the ulterior motive of destabilizing the state and setting it on fire”.

The national assembly was taken aback by shock and consternation but the mysterious question has been who exactly the president of the national assembly was accusing.Cavaye Yeguie Djibril who is also a traditional ruler in Mada,in Mayo Sava division of the Far North Region ,a locality that is highly touched by the activities of Boko Haram left no one in doubt that he knew exactly what he was talking about.

If Cavaye called for frank and sincere collaboration in the fight against Boko Haram ,his declaration rekindled the debate on the support Boko Haram has and the sincerity of the mobilization of all Cameroonians to combat the sect .In a recent statement to the press ,the chairman of the main opposition party ,SDF,Ni John Fru Ndi raised concerns that Boko Haram will progressively get support from Cameroon and will gain grounds. The chairman of the SDF expressed shock that out of the money that was given to be paid as ransom for the liberation of the kidnapped Moulin Fournier family ,only 10% of the amount actually went into the hands of Boko Haram militants. But Cameroonians did not know that French satellites were monitoring the movement of this money. Confidential sources disclosed that part of this money found its way back to Yaounde.

Sources close to the Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon, on behalf of the Maroua Mokolo diocese also disclosed that the kidnapping of the Moulin Fournier family as well as Father George Vandenbeusch made new millionaires within political circles in Cameroon. Wangbi Fare, a journalist who has been investigating the matters notes that out of the six billion francs that was involved in the transaction, some of this French satellite monitored bank notes were found in the hands of a senior state functionary of extreme north extraction. The same bank notes were said to be in wide circulation in petrol stations as well as bakeries in the Far North chief town of Maroua.

Abdouraman Halirou, expert in trans border issues and professor of History in the University of Ngaoundere has raised concerns that without the complicity of some members of the grassroots population, and without a well coordinated network of activities ,Boko Haram would not expanding its activities the way it is doing.

The declarations by Honourable Cavaye Yeguie Djibril only come to add to those of Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan who recently said “Boko Haram members are in the state apparatus, in parliament, judiciary, army and security services”.

Defence Minister, Mebeng’o And Marafa Hamidou Yaya Suspected Boko Haram Militants?

The minister of Defence,Edgar Aalin Mebengo’o and the former minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization ,Marafa Hamidou Yaya who is now in prison have been accused of being under cover supporters and promoters of Boko Haram which is wrecking havoc in Nigeria and Cameroon.

Accusations on the duo were heaped by the Minister Delegate and the presidency in charge of relations with the assembly and former minister of Justice Ahmadou Ali during a sensitization campaign against Boko Haram in the Far North Region. During the sensitization meeting for the Mayo Sava division in the Far North ,the head of the divisional sensitization commission ,Ahmadou Ali said on 1 June 2010,he handed  a six page document titled “On the tracks of Boko Haram in the Far North” with a list of its members who had escaped from Nigeria to the minister of Defence, Edgard Alain Mebengo’o and the then minister of territorial administration ,Marafa Hamidou Yaya.

Curiously though. Ahmadou Ali continued both ministers did not do anything to stop the Nigerian insurgence from continuing with their activities. He further recalled that on 30 July 2009 Nigerian security forces waged a serious attack on Boko Haram militants and this led to more than 700 deaths in five days, amongst whom were about 300 militants. It is during this attack that Mohamed Yusuf ,the man who founded Boko Haram in 2002 was killed. Between August 2009 and August 2010 many Boko Haram militants sought refuge in Cameroon, Niger and Chad. He thus said Cameroonians need to know why Mebeng’o and Marafa did not act on the information he provided to them.

Ahmadou Ali further pointed out that Boko Haram resurfaced in September 2010 in a more sophisticated  and deadly manner with one Sanni Umaru presenting himself as the successor of Mohamed Yusuf who had been killed a year earlier.

Meantime ,it has further been disclosed that the cabinet shake up of Friday 7 September 2007 which flushed out Jean Marie Atangana Mebara, Polycarp Abah Abah ,Urbain Olanguena Awono believed to be the ring leaders of the G11 group rather gave an opportunity for  the group to better implant itself because Marafa Hamidou Yaya and Edgard Alain Mebengo’o  galvanized their strategy because they saw in the Boko Haram presence in Cameroon a leverage for the destabilization of Cameroon ,in the hope that Biya would leave in 2011.

The big question that has been asked is why Ahmadou Ali who is believed to be Biya’s right hand man did not reveal this information when all these things happened. Some observers have been quick to point out that as part of the conspiracy, he could not reveal the information. Tongues are therefore wagging as to what might have happened within the past four years that these underground activities have been going on. There are also suspicions that Ahmadou Ali, the man who told Biya that Polycarp Abah Abah had 500 billion francs in his accounts might have been eyeing the post of defense minister. Ahamadou Ali has therefore implicated Edgard Alain Mebengo;o at a time when his native Kolofata has become a veritable bastion for Boko Haram militants .It is also said that during the death of a northern billionaire Ali Kotoko, Boko Haram met in his house and took some decisions which have not yet been made public.

What J. N. Foncha told Biya before dying

From every indication, Foncha failed to see when he had eyes to see and only saw when the eyes were bulged out like Gloucester In “King Lear”. Before his dead John Nguh Foncha expressed disappointment with Biya’s government, reason why he could not continue dinning with a fox at the expense of his people. His dissatisfaction is contained in a resignation letter addressed to Paul Biya before his dead. See full text below.

I have the honor to inform Your Excellency that after careful consideration and careful thought, I have decided to address to you my resignation from the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement and my reasons for resigning are as follows:

The CPDM which elected me as its first National Vice President is the party which forms the government of Cameroon and has been responsible for shaping government policies.

As the national Vice President of the party, I have found it impossible to use my exalted position to helpin any way shape or influence the policies of the party because:Demands by me for audience with the Chairman of the party to discuss issues have been systematically turned down.Several memos and representations I have made in writing on several important national issues have been ignored. During my political career which spans over forty years, I headed the group that campaigned for and got the peoples of the then Southern Cameroons to vote for unification, after which I went from village to village in the then East Cameroon at the risk of my life to calm terrorism which existed at the time. I even housed some Cameroonians wanted in East Cameroon .I successfully had them reconciled with the Ahidjo government. I missed being shot down on my way from Bafang on peacemaking mission.

After unification, a lot of Cameroonians had confidence in me and when the first Presidential elections were coming up, many people urged me to stand against President Ahidjo. I decided to go for the Vice Presidency instead in order to avoid unnecessary conflict and further bloodshed. Peace in Cameroon counted to me more than any post I could have. When President Ahidjo decided to get rid of me as the Vice President, a lot of Cameroonians sympathized with me and urged me to make  it an issue out of it but for the love of peace, I came back quietly to live in my village as a private citizen.

After settling in my village I was occasionally consulted on some national issues and I accepted to serve the people of Cameroon in whatever capacity it pleased the powers that be to put me.When the leadership of Cameroon changed hands and Your Excellency became the President of the Republic and eventually head of the CNU, I assured Your Excellency that I was at your disposal and ready from my experience to give you advice you may need on national issues.

Unfortunately this was not to be as it became clear to me that I had become an irrelevant nuisance that had to be ignored and ridiculed.I was to be used now only as window dressing and not listened to. I am most of the time summoned to meetings by radio without any courtesy of my consultation on the agenda.

All projects of the former West Cameroon I had either initiated or held very dear to my heart had to be taken over, mismanaged and ruined, e.g. Cameroon Bank, West Cameroon Marketing Board, WADA in Wum, West Cameroon Cooperative Movement.Whereas I spent all my life fighting to have a deep sea port in Limbe developed, this project had to be shelved and instead an expensive pipeline is to be build from SONARA in Limbe to Douala in order to pipe the oil to Douala. All the roads in West Cameroon my government had either build, improved or maintained were allowed to deteriorate making Kumba-Mamfe Mamfe-Bamenda, Bamenda-Wum-Nkambe, Bamenda-Momo inaccessible by road.

Projects were shelved even after petrol produced enough money for building them and the Limbe sea port. All progress of employment, appointments, etc. meant to promote adequate regional representation in government and its services have been revised or changed at the expense of those who stood for truth and justice. They are identified as “Foncha-man” and put aside. The Anglophone Cameroonians whom I brought into the Union have been ridiculed and referred to as “les Biafrians”, “les enemies dans la maison”, “les traites”, etc, etc, and the constitutional provisions which protected this Anglophone minority have been suppressed, their voice drowned while the rule of the gun has replaced the dialogue which the Anglophone cherish very much. The national media has been used by the government through people who never voted for unification to misinform the citizens about Bamenda, deliberate lies have been told over the mass media all in an attempt to isolate the Anglophone Cameroonians who voted for unification and subject them to hatred and more discrimination and harassment from other Cameroonians.

Embezzlement of public funds in all forms and illegal exportation of our currency by the privileged class seems to go without reprimand but is rather condoned. The constitution which I have held and preached as the supreme law of the land is in many respects being ignored or manipulated. People are encouraged to support flagrant violation of the constitution by going out on marches against the existence of multi-parties. In order to completely disgrace me and show my irrelevance, troops were deployed in Bamenda in large numbers to harass everyone in Bamenda of Bamenda origin; my self not excluded, and prevent the launching of a new political party. This was done in spite of my protestation and advice in order to completely ridicule me in my own constituency and destroy all I have stood for all my life i.e., democracy, respect for human rights, avoidance of violence and respect of the constitution, in order to allow peace and progress which God had bestowed in Cameroon on a platter of gold. If as the National Vice President of the CPDM, no one is prepared to listen to me in spite of the fact that the CPDM is the party running the government, I find myself completely at loss as to what the CPDM has become.

Mindful of my patriotic love for Cameroon and sacrifices I have personally made to ensure that Cameroon remains united as a nation, while resigning from the CPDM, I wish to assure Your Excellency andother militants of the CPDM that I shall not join any other political party. I shall still be even ready if consulted to give my advice to the government if ever such an advice was asked for. I hope and pray that the CPDM will change attitude towards the demand for multi-parties otherwise it might soon find itself an irrelevant anachronism. The people who are sincere should encourage the CPDM in this direction because without criticism and competition the CPDM will never improve and cultivate genuine support from its citizenry. Let the CPDM not move towards the direction where it will find itself collapsing faster than man of the “strong” governments that have collapsed in recent memory. My resignation is effective from today the 9th June, 1990.

Thank you.
I have the Honor to be
Yours Respectfully,
(SDG.)
Dr. J.N. Foncha

I was elected by 250 Fons and 11 cannot oust me ! Fon Teche

The president of North West Fons Union NOWEFU  Senator Fon Teche Njei II of Ngemuwa village Momo Division has reminded his detractors that he still remain the president of NW Fons’ Union in spite ploy by a cream of 11 fons to frustrate his administration. He insists that he was elected by 250 fons of the region and 11 out of the 250 because of for selfish political ploy, cannot fire him from his position as NOWEFU president. “I will continue as president till 2015 when my mandates finishes.”

He said that he cannot abandon 231 fons to heed to 11 disgruntled fons who are merely envious of his political achievements.”He said “not every Cameroonian is happy with president Paul Biya but he must complete his mandate by 2018 given that majority of Cameroonians are his admirers, so is Fon Teche with a comfortable majority of the Fons of the region.

Eleven fons of the region met few months ago at Mankon fon’s palace in a desperate attempt to displace him as NOWEFU president on grounds of obnoxious award of titles to the public. He was since then requested to retrieve the titles or face the music. A request that is more than human ordinance. It is apparently on this premise that he argued he could not step down on request of only 11 fons when he was duly elected by 250 fons of the region.

He made the declaration in an exclusive chat with Vanguard shortly after the call by Northwest chief executive Gov. Lelel L’Afriaque on the Fons of the Region to bury the hatchet and speak with one voice. This was on the sidelines of a meeting organized by the CPDM central committee chaired by the vice president of the Senate Simon Achidi Achu to reinforce security in the region against of Boko Haram  on Saturday June 14 at Bamenda congress Hall.

Fon Teche said some of the fons’ are “Jealous because I was appointed by the Head of into senate and as a bureau memeber. The president said NOWEFU does not have problems but in individual fons have problems and this cannot in anyway perturb the functioning of NOWEFU. He dismissed claims that the rancor amongst fons has an adverse effect of the union and the development plans he has for the union. Questioned on the way forward, he  said “we are in a democratic society and people are free to choose where to belong.

Addressing over 54 fons invited to Club 58 for dinner by Senator Fon Teche after the seminar which took place at the Bemanda congress hall, Governor Lele L’ Afrique exhorted hem to respect each other and avoid little squabbles that could blight their integrity ,peace and development of the region. He said the would be insecurity in the region if the Fon’s  continue to be at each other’s throat.

Gov. Lele said a Fon remains a Fon, no matter area where he finds himself. It was on this note that the idea of working against each other fons or claims by other fons as being superior to others either because of their academic standing or population was condemned in very strong terms by the governor.

As auxiliaries of the administration is it “incumbent on you to speak with one voice, avoid meeting administration in dispersed ranks to be able to harnessed the peace and reinforce security and development of the region. They were also exhorted to stop assisting foreigners to obtain Cameroon birth certificates and other legal documents unorthodoxly. The fons’ seized the opportunity to hail Fon Teche for his political ingenuity and steadfastness to issues of NOWEFU.

Meme SDO Suspends Konye Council Revenue Collection

The senior divisional officer for meme koulbout Aman David has suspended the collection of revenue by the Konye council or its partners along the roads under the jurisdiction of the Konye council. The SDO’s suspension order dated 2nd June 2014 was contained in a prefectoral order no: 250 addressed to the Divisional Officer and the mayor of the konye council and also copied the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization in Yaoundé, The Governor of the South West Region, all cocoa dealers in Meme and other alphabet agencies in the region.

In his letter the SDO was short on expatiating reason(s) for the suspension of the collection of revenue by the Konye council or its partners but went on to state that the deliberation on revenue from cocoa shall be implemented in the council office or the local markets and that the suspension order shall be lifted only after a meeting by the Senior Divisional Officer, the mayor of the Konye council and other stake holders. Article 3, the last in the SDO’s suspension order further states that the divisional officer of Konye, the company commander and the brigade commander of Konye shall be charged with the strict implementation of the order. Most of the revenue of the Konye council comes from cocoa and other bush product. In the meantime, with the indefinite suspension order, the Konye council would be hard pressed for cash for development projects and to pay its workers.

CRTV - Private Press Locked in Deadly Duel Over Awards

By Nyassah Julius - Tension between CRTV Bamenda and the private press, especially newspapers in the North West has now reached its crescendo over who has the legitimate right to offer awards to meritorious Cameroonians .The duel was openly declared at Azam Hotel on Saturday 14 June 2014 during obnoxious the CRTV Youth Promoter Award ceremony.

During the event, the representative of the Governor who chaired the event in a speech allegedly tailored by the organizers hailed the initiative taken by CRTV to distinguish some Cameroonians was a laudable one that should be copied by the private press who want to venture into the world of awards.

However, this utterance did not go down well for members of the private press who answered present to witness the ceremony. This immediately triggered a debate on who between CRTV and the private press has a legitimate lesson to learn from the other. This, because several newspapers such as The Vanguard, The Guardian Post, The Watchdog Tribune and Lifetime Newspapers have been involved in awards for several years now, and for CRTV Bamenda to come out in its maiden edition to say other private media houses should learn from them is an aberration.

It is for this reason that some of the people who bagged awards from CRTV were seriously screened to see if they really merited the awards or were handpicked .Tongues are still wagging as how Linda Yang grabbed the award of best women youth promoter for the year 2013/2014 when it is common knowledge that due to her inability to reach her own native Belo community Linda Yang lost elections under the ticket of the CPDM and was roped in a voters registration scandal with another Linda in ELECAM who ended up packing her belongings to elect residence in front of the prime minister’s residence after she was sacked for the fraud.

The devil’s advocate sad Linda Yang has constructed youth empowerment centre in the region under the umbrella of CERAC. But it is common knowledge that any other woman fronting as the prime minister’s wife has done same, so Linda Yang has done nothing extraordinary and will go into oblivion shortly after the award apparently meant to scam her. This probably explains why the impresario at the ceremony, Barrister Kemende Henry Gamsey was smart to clear the air that he did not call Linda Yang “her Excellency” ,but rather it is her supposed husband, Philemon Yang  who was addressed as “his Excellency”.

Without being a doomsday prophet , this reporter however spotted some deserving Cameroonians and organizations who were recognized. One of such is the national youth president of the UNDP Party, Ndansi Elvis Nukam .The dynamic young man who is a doctoral student has distinguished himself in the field of politics by defying the CPDM in Misaje as well as being the flag bearer of his party as far as the youth are concerned etc.
